iPhone update disables hacks
Those of you who have been modding your iPhones with the latest third-party software hacks may want to hold off on installing the v1.0.1 update.
We're still waiting on official confirmation from Apple, but the iPhone Dev Wiki is reporting that the update runs a scan for any modded software and wipes the system if any is found. The wiped iPhone then needs to be reactivated.
There is good news for hack-happy iPhone users, however. The group also claims that several of the more popular methods for activating the iPhone without signing up for AT&T service still work.
According to Apple, the iPhone update will attempt to install when the device is docked, but users have the option to decline the update. Of course, the device will attempt to install the update every single time it is docked, so you may eventually get tired of clicking "cancel" and just decide to actually use your $600 phone to make phone calls...
